Young Girl Dies After Being Thrown From Car In Crash On Lower Wacker Drive

A girl just weeks shy of turning 2 was killed and two adults were seriously injured early Friday when their car made a U-turn on Lower Wacker Drive and was hit by an oncoming SUV, according Chicago police.

The 23-month-old girl, Amaria Glenn, was not in a child seat and was thrown from the car, according to Sgt. Cindy Guerra, a police spokeswoman, and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The car was traveling west in the first block of West Lower Wacker when it turned to head east around 1 a.m. and was struck by an SUV traveling east with the green light, police said. The car then slammed into a wall.

Amaria, of the 7900 block of South Bishop Street in the Gresham neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. at Lurie Children's Hospital, the medical examiner’s office said. A man and woman in the car, both 29, were taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
