Did you know that bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the UK?
Only lung cancer claims more lives but the good news is that most cases of bowel cancer can be cured.
Of the 42,000 people diagnosed each year, doctors can now successfully treat 95 per cent of cases of bowel cancer, however the key factor is catching it early enough.
That's why it is vitally important to be aware of the key warning signs of the disease. To mark April's Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, two colorectal surgeons have outlined the symptoms everybody needs to know about.
Consultant colorectal surgeons Mr Colin Elton and Mr Daren Francis - who both work at The Wellington Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK - explain what you should look out for.
Remember, these symptoms do not automatically mean you have cancer and are usually caused by something far less serious - but it's always best to get them checked by your doctor quickly.
