Surveillance Video Captures Boston Police Cruiser Striking Toddler

A 1-year-old girl was injured Monday night after she was struck by a police cruiser in Roxbury, Boston police confirm.

The SUV cruiser hit the young girl around 7:06 p.m. on Shawmut Avenue in Roxbury. WBZ shared surveillance footage from a nearby liquor store that shows the Boston police cruiser parked in the street, just near the young girl and her family as the children played on the sidewalk.

It was when the cruiser pulled away from its parking spot, just as the toddler wandered into the street, when the vehicle clipped and injured her.

The video shows a nearby pedestrian ran over to pick the girl up as the young girl’s mother chased after the police cruiser. The officers stopped and remained on the scene. WBZ reports an ambulance arrived quickly to transport the girl for her injuries, which the mother later told reporters included a broken collar bone.

“Thankfully, the child was alert and conscious at the scene and a full recovery is expected,” Boston police said in a statement. The cause of the crash remains under police investigation.
