A 19-year-old was shot while driving on Williams Road Sunday night, Salinas police said.

Around 9:40 p.m., police received a ShotSpotter activation for several gunshots at Williams Road and Garner Avenue, according to Miguel Cabrera, public information officer for the Salinas Police Department.

As officers responded, they also received a 911 call for a shooting victim in the 1200 block of Del Monte Avenue.

Police located the man – shot twice in the shoulder – at his friend's house, Cabrera said.

Officers determined the man was driving on Williams near Garner when an unknown suspect in an unidentified vehicle shot him twice. His car had multiple bullet holes as well.

Multiple shell casings were found at the scene. Officers also checked the area to see if other victims or structures were struck but didn't locate anything.

After being shot, the man drove to a friend's house nearby on Del Monte where police were called.

According to Cabrera, the man was not able to provide any information on the suspect.

The man was transported to Natividad where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the case.
