Man Shot In Car Outside Secretary Of State Facility In Chicago Heights

A 27-year-old Harvey man was shot Monday while sitting in his car outside a Secretary of State facility in Chicago Heights, police said.

When Chicago Heights police arrived on scene at about 1:10 p.m., they found the victim in the driver’s seat of a white Hyundai sedan with an apparent gunshot wound above his left hip, Police Chief Thomas Rogers said in a statement.

The victim was taken to Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields for emergency treatment and will later be transferred to Stroger Hospital for additional treatment, Rogers said.

The shooter, who is still at large, is believed to have fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle, police said. The shooting, Rogers said, appears to have been a targeted act.
