Man Shot Dead While Sitting In Car In South LA

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man dead on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles. It’s the third deadly shooting in the area in recent days. 

The shooting occurred at 11:55 p.m. Monday near Western and Florence Avenues in the Chesterfield Square neighborhood. According to Los Angeles police, the victim was shot several times and left on the sidewalk until several bystanders discovered his body. 

The victim, believed to be in his 40’s, was pronounced dead by Los Angeles fire paramedics on the scene. His identity was not released.

“It’s a tragedy. Any time someone loses their life, it’s a tragedy. This is another tragedy,” said LAPD Capt. Billy Rockway. 

There was no immediate motive or suspect information. Police did not believe the shooting was gang-related.

Police said they are also investigating two recent shootings in the same area. 

A man was shot to death while sitting in his car on the 6900 block of Denver Avenue late Sunday night. The suspect approached the car on foot and opened fire on the victim, according to police.

Another man was shot dead by a bicyclist near Main and 33rd streets early Monday morning. 

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore spoke at a news conference April 2 about the alarming increase in South L.A. gun violence, including the March 31 shooting death of musician Nipsey Hussle.
