Headlight Violation Leads To Arrest Of Man On Gun, Drug Charges: University Heights Police Blotter

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio --

Improper handling of a firearm: Cedar Road

At 12:50 a.m. July 25, an officer stopped a car that had one working headlight. It was subsequently found that the car displayed fictitious plates. A search of the car revealed that the driver, a Cleveland man, 18, possessed marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two loaded handguns.

The man was charged with operating a vehicle with one headlight, displaying illegal plates, possession of marijuana and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. The man’s car was impounded and a passenger, a Cleveland man, 18, was released at the scene.

Grand theft: Cedar Road

At 9:20 a.m. July 22, it was reported that a 2016 Jeep was stolen from the Speedway gas station at 14458 Cedar Road. The Jeep’s owner left the vehicle, its engine running and the key inside, parked next to a gas pump.

On July 25, Cleveland police recovered the Jeep on East 147th Street and arrested a suspect.

Fraud: Jackson Boulevard

At 11:35 a.m. July 22, a woman completed a police report detailing how she had entered into a contract with a construction company. The company started the work at her home, but appeared to have no intention of completing the job.

The total amount of the woman’s loss is $4,275. The matter was turned over to the city prosecutor.

DUS: Silsby Road

At 12:55 p.m. July 22, an officer stopped a car for a traffic violation and found that the driver, a University Heights man, 27, was driving with a suspended license. Police cited the man and impounded his car.

DUS: Warrensville Center Road

At 4:35 p.m. July 22, an officer stopped a car that was showing expired plates. It was subsequently found that the driver, a Cleveland man, 52, was driving with a suspended license. The man was cited and arrested on a warrant.

DUS: Warrensville Center Road

At 12:50 a.m. July 23, an officer came upon a car blocking a driveway on Warrensville Center Road. After investigating, police charged the driver, an East Cleveland woman, 26, with driving with a suspended license and without a license. The woman’s car was impounded.

Fleeing and eluding: Cedar Road

At 7:45 p.m. July 24, a University Heights resident reported that his car was stolen, with its key in the ignition, from the Speedway gas station. The car was located by Cleveland Heights police.

When the CHPD attempted to stop the car, it was driven away. The pursuit was soon terminated. Police are investigating.

Domestic violence: Westwood Road

At 8:30 p.m. July 26, police were called to a home where threats had been made by a family member. Police arrested a boy, 17, for domestic violence against his brother, 20. The boy was transported to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.

Open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle: Cedar Road

At 1:10 a.m. July 27, an officer stopped a car that was being driven without functioning headlights or taillights. While speaking with the driver, a man, 22, an officer saw in the car’s glove compartment a large box of rifle rounds. Also in the car was an open container of alcohol.

The man was cited for the headlight violation and for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was also cited for not possessing a valid driver’s license.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 3 p.m. July 28, police arrested a Cleveland woman, 47, for stealing merchandise worth $467 from Target, 14070 Cedar Road.
