Girl, 3, Ejected From Car, Killed In Lower Wacker Crash After Car Makes U Turn; 2 Seriously Injured

CHICAGO — A 1-year-old girl was killed after she was ejected from a car in a crash on Lower Wacker Drive Friday morning, police said. A man and woman were seriously injured in the crash. Police said the car collided with an SUV.

A Mazda 3 was traveling west on Lower Wacker Drive and made an illegal u-turn at Garvey Court at about 1 a.m., police said. The Mazda crashed into an eastbound Acura MDX.

The mazda struck a support column and the 1-year-old girl was thrown from the car. She was not in a child safety seat or wearing a seat belt, police said.

The girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A 29-year-old woman and 29-year-old man who were in the car were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Four people who were inside the Acura declined medical attention.

The Chicago Police Major Accidents Unit is investigating the crash.
