Ex Yankee Alex Rodriguez Reportedly Has $500,000 In Goods Stolen From His Rental Car

Former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez reportedly had half-a-million-dollars’ worth of electronics and jewelry stolen when his rental car was broken into Sunday night in San Francisco.

Rodriguez is now a baseball broadcaster for ESPN, and was part of the crew covering the Giants-Phillies game Sunday.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday that an SUV rented by ESPN for Rodriguez and other staff members was broken into while it was parked on the street about three blocks from the downtown ballpark between 9 and 11 p.m., while they were having dinner after the game. Sources told the Chronicle that Rodriguez lost a camera, a laptop, a bag and miscellaneous jewelry, worth about $500,000.

San Francisco has been plagued by auto break-ins in recent years. A recent San Francisco Chronicle report said there were 2,150 break-ins reported to the police in July alone, about 69 a day, mostly in areas popular with tourists.

Police have made the theft a high-priority case, the Chronicle reported.

Rodriguez played 22 seasons, mostly with the Yankees, and retired with the fourth-most home runs in Major League Baseball history. His legacy was tainted, though, by an admission of steroid use. He’s currently engaged to pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez.
