While Alex Rodriguez was in San Francisco for ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcast, thieves broke into his rental car and stole jewelry and electronics worth a reported half million dollars.

Although San Francisco police say it's against department policy to release the name of a crime victim, multiple sources told The San Francisco Chronicle the vehicle belonging to the former Major League Baseball star-turned-broadcaster was parked about three blocks from Oracle Park.

Police say a camera, laptop, miscellaneous jewelry and a bag were reported missing. Sources told the Chronicle the items were valued around $500,000.

The theft capped a rough week for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball crew. Analyst Jessica Mendoza missed the game between the homestanding Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies while recovering from a car accident on Friday.
