A Man Shot In The Face, A Bullet Riddled Car And More Questions Than Answers

Gunfire rang out at an Interstate 95 exit ramp early Monday, leaving a silver Dodge Avenger riddled with about 10 bullet holes — and a man shot in the face.

After the shooting off Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, the driver took the wounded passenger north on I-95, exiting at Atlantic Boulevard and stopping for help at RaceTrac gas station at 599 W. Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach, according to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alvaro Feola.

About 5 a.m., authorities found the Dodge at the gas station, and the wounded man.

“The bullet traveled downward and came to rest in his nasal cavities,” Feola said.

The man’s condition wasn’t known Monday afternoon but he was alert and speaking with hospital staff before going into surgery. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, but then relocated to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

For part of the morning, the car sat in the gas station’s parking lot surrounded by crime-scene tape as investigators from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and FHP gathered evidence. According to Feola, the driver refused to cooperate with investigators and left the scene without providing any details about what happened.

Authorities ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
