12 Year Old Struck And Killed By Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Car, Report Says

A vehicle driven by a Bergen County Sheriff’s officer struck and killed a 12-year-old boy in Fair Lawn Sunday night, police said.

Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said the Fair Lawn boy was struck on Route 208 South near Fair Lawn Avenue at 9:08 p.m. He was with a group of kids when he was struck, Metzler said.

Metzler said he did not have the names of the boy or the driver of the vehicle, a marked patrol vehicle. The officer was taken to a local hospital, he said, but he did not know if that person was injured.

Route 208 South is expected to be closed into the early morning as authorities investigated the accident. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is heading the investigation.
