1 Dead, 2 Injured After Truck Collides With Tree In Rusk

RUSK — One person is dead and two more have been hospitalized after a one-vehicle accident in Rusk.

According to the Rusk Police Department, on Sunday, around 6:40 p.m., officials responded to reports of a crash in the 1300 block of U.S. Highway 69.

When first responders arrived on scene, they discovered a pickup truck had collided with a tree, trapping three people inside. Rescue personnel were able to free the occupants and began aid.

The driver, identified as George Smith, 37, of Jacksonville, was taken to a local hospital via helicopter. A 14-year-old passenger was flown to a Dallas medical Center. Another passenger, Thurman E. Massey, 71, also of Jacksonville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
