1 Charged In Hit And Run Police Believe Killed Des Moines Man

Des Moines police have charged a man they believe is responsible for an unreported hit-and-run that resulted in the death of 69-year-old Charles Child.

Donterius Jamar Bomar, 21, is charged with attempted murder.

Police said he was released from the Polk County Jail on Tuesday, then stole a car, hit Childs and took off.

Bomar was later arrested for stealing the vehicle, but the hit-and-run involving Childs was never reported to police.

Police found Childs’ body on Thursday inside his tent at a homeless camp in the 1600 block of East Madison Avenue.

Police said Bomar's charge could be upgraded to murder pending the results of forensic tests.
